In the United States, hunger is not caused by a lack of food, but rather the continued prevalence of poverty. 49 million Americans struggle to put food on the table. This puts more than 1 in 5 children at risk of hunger. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines “food insecurity” as the lack of access to enough food for all household members. The Kellogg’s Company is doing its part to fight hunger and create solutions for everyday challenges. In 2013, the Breakfast for Better Days Initiative was created to feed as many people as possible, all over the world. The focus is on supplying children with enough food at the start of their day to be ready to learn in school.

The Kellogg’s Company believes in supporting health and well-being for all. The Global Breakfast Food Beliefs assures consumers that by 2020, all Kellogg’s products will have a reduced amount of sugar and sodium. The company is proud to announce they have achieved its goal four years early. 90% of their cereals now have 10mgs or less of sugar and 88% now have less than 150mgs of sodium, which is a 44% reduction since 2007.

By the end of 2016, the Kellogg’s Company had donated over one billion servings of cereal and snacks to those in need. You can get involved by volunteering at a local school breakfast program, a food bank, or a food drive. Another way of helping those in need is the spread of information. Use the hashtag #PowerOfBreakfast on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest to continue the conversation and benefit these children. Help give a child breakfast in the morning by purchasing Kellogg's products at your local grocery store.
